When you judge yourself, you are hurting yourself by suppressing parts of you to hide them from others (and yourself).
This act dis-empowers you. You end up using a lot of energy in becoming a different person and keeping up a facade. Your emotions end up spiralling out of control which inevitably causes distress and disharmony to your whole original self. These suppressed emotions are looking for a way out and eventually they will find a way.
